Welcome to the last Fridays Without Pam. We did our best to keep you up-to-date on important information until Pam returns at the end of October.

This week's masthead is quintessentially October, right? It's our 2018 Critics' Choice winner in the Fun in the Outdoors category by Rusty Glessner in the Forbes State Forest. Follow in the Glessners' footsteps with a walk on the Beam Rocks Trail this weekend. An interesting blog entry from Mind Body Green offers thoughts on why we walk the way we do.

Friday, 19 October 2018 marks the 80th anniversary of the Pepper Hill Fire which occurred in 1938. On this day, 8 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollees lost their lives in a wildfire in Forest District 13 near Sinnemahoning, Cameron County. Learn more about the fire here  Pepper Hill Fire 1938  Out of respect for the 8 CCC "boys" who lost their lives, please observe a moment of silence on Friday, October 19th at 3:30 PM, the approximate time of the entrapment which led to the fatalities.

National Color Day is October 22, a perfect day to do some leaf peeping! The leaves should be approaching best color in most of Pennsylvania.

Let us know where you are seeing great fall colors.

The Friends of Ohiopyle had a set back this week on the building of the Sugarloaf Pavilion, when during the dark night hours someone dismantled and removed all the 8x8 upright posts.  If you have any information, please contact the park office.

Don't forget to bookmark our events calendar and the DCNR Calendar of Events to find all the fun you need this month.
