Welcome to the first Fridays Without Pam. Intern Casey and I will do our best to keep you up-to-date on important information until her return at the end of October, beginning with a note that Sunday marks the second annual Walk in Penn's Woods. Join me and the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace at 2:00 near the Fuller Lake Snack Bar or visit the website for the Center for Private Forests at Penn State for a list of other walks taking place across the state. I look forward to meeting you!

This week's masthead features our 2018 Critics' Choice winner in the Young Photographers category - Trent Stross took this creative shot at Sinnemahoning State Park.

Amanda Trimmer, Outreach Coordinator

Orders are still being accepted for the Get Out ... Side shirts through Bonfire. This yummy dark chocolate long-sleeved tee shirt is perfect for fall explorations. But they are only available for a limited time - through next Thursday.

Today is National Do Something Nice Day - which we thought would tie in nicely with a message of volunteerism. I think Pam reminds readers frequently that both the Friends of Ridley Creek and Friends of Ohiopyle are out on their parks' trails on the first Saturday each month - although this month FOO has postponed their October date until the 20th. Did you know that every event on our calendar includes a "Volunteer" button that allows you to sign up to help one of our chapters with their projects? It's easy as can be to get involved.

Marci was excited to have the opportunity to speak to the Class of 2019 Leadership Harrisburg Area about the important role parks and forests play around the Commonwealth.

Head to Lackawanna State Park for the last stop on the 2018 Through the Seasons Photo Tour. Photos will be on display during regular business hours  until the end of October.

Don't forget to bookmark our events calendar and the DCNR Calendar of Events to find all the fun you need this month.
